What is a handleless kitchen and how much will it cost?
Don’t worry, you will be able to open the cupboards of your new handleless kitchen! But there are a few things worth knowing if you are considering a handleless kitchen. Most people are attracted to a handleless kitchen because by removing the handles you give your new kitchen a sleek and minimalist look. But beware, not all handleless kitchens are equal! Essentially, a handleless kitchen is one that does not have a conventional handle on the front of the door but instead has a channel integrated into the carcase to allow the door to be opened from the top or the side.
The long channel that runs behind the door then creates a beautiful, linear line. As with everything in life there are cheap imitations to a true handleless kitchen. Some companies will rebate the door at the top or screw the channel handle to the back of the door to achieve a handless look but they never look as good as the real thing as they do not create an unbroken line. The design of your handleless kitchen is all important. In terms of aesthetics you should be trying to create a long unbroken line so avoid freestanding appliances as this can quickly spoil the look and you need to check that any integrated appliances will work with a handleless cabinet.
How much will my handleless kitchen cost ?
There is no hard a fast rule but on average the cost of handleless furniture will only be 10 to 15 % more expensive than the equivalent furniture with a handle. So, on average, the cost will only be £350 to £500 more. A small price to pay for a beautiful handleless kitchen!
Another common mistake is to fit short handleless wall units one on top of another which makes it extremely difficult to open the top wall unit as the wall unit below restricts the channel handle.
